From August 24 to 28, 2025, the city of Stockholm once again became the epicenter of global dialogue on water management with the celebration of World Water Week, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). This event has established itself as the most relevant international meeting on the challenges and solutions surrounding water, sustainability, and climate change.
For five days, government leaders, private sector representatives, scientists, NGOs, and multilateral organizations shared perspectives and experiences on how to address one of the greatest challenges of our time: ensuring water security in the context of the climate crisis. This year, the thematic focus was clear and urgent: putting water at the center of climate action.
At Agrow, we were honored to actively participate in this global forum, exhibiting alongside international leaders such as BEF, The Nature Conservancy, Agua Segura, Amazon, and Microsoft. Our presence reaffirmed our commitment to the sustainable management of water resources and to the integration of water as a fundamental pillar of corporate sustainability.
💧 Key takeaways from the event
💦 1. The transversal value of water
One of the key consensuses reached was the need to recognize water as a cross-cutting element that connects multiple dimensions of sustainable development. Water can no longer be seen solely as an environmental resource, but as a strategic factor for economic, food, and social resilience.
Equitable access to and management of water are essential to ensuring food security, maintaining agricultural productivity, and reducing risks associated with climate variability. Companies are also realizing that incorporating water criteria into their ESG strategies not only mitigates risks but also generates long-term value and trust.
At Agrow, we are committed to a model of action that understands water as an integral part of the business ecosystem. Our work promotes solutions that reduce the water footprint, promote reuse, and ensure the sustainability of resources for future generations.
🌱 2. A holistic look at the water cycle
World Water Week 2025 consolidated a growing trend: approaching water management from a comprehensive and holistic perspective. It's no longer enough to measure consumption or losses; today we're talking about managing the entire hydrological cycle.
The experts highlighted the importance of understanding the three dimensions of the water footprint:
- Blue footprint, linked to the direct use of surface and groundwater.
- Green footprint, associated with rainwater used by crops.
- Gray footprint, which assesses the impact of polluting discharges on ecosystems.
The challenge lies in balancing these factors, ensuring the quality and quantity of available water while preserving the ecosystems that sustain it. In this context, biodiversity and watershed restoration emerge as key natural solutions for sustainable water management.
At Agrow, we promote a value chain vision that integrates regenerative practices and data monitoring tools that enable more informed, responsible, and evidence-based decision-making.
⚡ 3. Water as a catalyst for sustainable development
One of the most powerful messages from the event was the reaffirmation that water is a catalyst for change. Without proper water management, it is impossible to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Water permeates all the major challenges of our time: energy, food, health, equity, and climate change.
However, it often remains invisible on sustainability agendas. Speakers emphasized the need to reposition water as a connector and accelerator of global climate action. This involves strengthening public-private collaboration, fostering technological innovation, and establishing common metrics that allow for transparent assessment of water impacts.
For Agrow, water is not just an operational resource: it's the core of our sustainability strategy. We believe in the transformative power of responsible water management as a driver of well-being, productivity, and equity.
🔁 Conclusion: A Call to Action
World Water Week 2025 reminded us that water is much more than a natural good: it is the foundation on which resilient economies, ecosystems and communities are built.
Ensuring its availability and quality is not only an environmental imperative, but a collective responsibility.
Desde Agrow, reafirmamos nuestro compromiso con impulsar soluciones que integren la gestión hídrica en el corazón de la acción climática.
El futuro sostenible que queremos depende del modo en que cuidemos hoy nuestro recurso más valioso: el agua. 💧
