Agriculture

Can a producer leverage technology without implementing major changes?

Yes, by collecting and storing all possible data! Even if you don't use it now, it will be crucial for making better decisions and increasing the value of your land sooner than you think.

Technology in agriculture depends on reliable and representative data, which is essential in such a variable environment like the agricultural sector. Where to start?

01 | Climate: A weather station will help you understand agro-climatic risks, explain results, and adjust forecasts.

02 | Phenology:Recording each phenological stage alongside variables like climate improves future decisions.

03 | Irrigation and Nutrition: Knowing how you’ve fed and hydrated your plants explains differences in productivity. This will help you identify successful strategies for optimization.

04 | Production:Why is one year or area more productive than another? Without segmented production data, there’s no starting point for improvement.

05 | Diseases: With fewer pesticides, knowing when and how problems arise improves efficiency in your applications.

Shortly: starting is simpler than you think. Install key sensors and keep a good field notebook. Additionally, I recommend digitizing the knowledge of those working the land: their experience is valuable and shouldn't be lost. (It will cost you money and time to recover that knowledge.)

Remember: even if you're not interested in technology, you should know that having a historical record of these variables will increasingly be the reason to evaluate the real cost of your farm (as the saying goes: "he who doesn't know what they have, doesn't know what it's worth")
