Hello, Agrow community! This month, we want to invite you to look at water savings from a new perspective. Because although we usually measure it in cubic meters, the truth is that its impact goes far beyond the number. At Agrow, we believe that understanding where and how water is saved is just as important as how much is saved.
Cuando una empresa o persona devuelve al medio ambiente el agua equivalente a la que ha utilizado, puede parecer sencillo hablar de un “volumen compensado”. Pero ese número no cuenta toda la historia. De hecho, el concepto de volumen compensado no refleja por sí solo el verdadero impacto del agua en los territorios. Detrás de cada litro compensado hay una red de impactos – ambientales, sociales y económicos – que definen el verdadero valor del agua.
🌱 Water Is Not Only Measured - It’s Lived
El agua que utilizamos deja huellas que van más allá del caudal: afecta ecosistemas, comunidades y economías locales. Por eso, entender la diferencia entre impacto directo e indirecto es clave, y todo empieza por una correcta medición del balance hídrico.
- Direct impacts: those achieved through concrete project activities (for example, water savings on a farm implementing precision irrigation).
- Indirect impacts: those triggered by the direct ones, such as improved biodiversity, soil stability, or strengthened rural communities.
When a company acts on its water consumption, it’s not just reducing its footprint - it’s influencing the health of ecosystems and the social resilience of the regions where it operates.
🌍 Beyond Volume: Context Matters
A liter of water saved does not have the same value everywhere. Saving water in a stressed basin, where reserves are at their limit, generates much greater environmental benefit than doing so in a region without scarcity issues.
That’s why every compensation action must be rooted in the basin’s context and consider its water stress level, biodiversity, and role in the local economy. This way, impact measurement stops being a simple number and becomes a reflection of the territory’s environmental and social reality.

🗞 Agrow News of the Month
🚀 Agriculture 4.0: We had the pleasure of participating in the event organized by Amazon Web Services and Ethic, where we joined a panel on the future of agriculture and the role of innovation and collaboration in climate resilience.
We also took part in the event “Sustainable Supply Chains: Shared Challenges, Collective Solutions” organized by @Forética We came away with valuable insights - and one thing is clear: corporations, governments, and innovation play a fundamental role in sustainable consumption and production.
We visited a field with Amazon: The Amazon team also joined us on a visit to one of the fields where we’re carrying out a joint project in the Ebro Basin, Spain, where agricultural water use represents 90% of the available water. This field is a great example of how technology integration can significantly improve productivity and resource efficiency.
Pablo Crespo Moya attended Expo AgriTech in Málagashowcasing Agrow’s solution as an innovative proposal to optimize water use in agriculture. Given that Spain faces alarming water stress, these types of solutions are more relevant than ever. He also met with various agricultural companies to learn more about their work and sustainability goals.
